BIRTH DOULA
I have always been innately drawn to the birth space. According to my family lore, when I was four years old and my younger brother was born, I arrived at the hospital with my plastic doctor's kit, assuming I would be helping with the delivery. I followed the doctor track for many years, attending Yale University as a pre-med biology major, spending my summers shadowing OBs and midwives, and assisting with vaginal and Cesarean births alike. Along the way, my eyes were opened to the role of a birth doula, and it became immediately clear to me that that was the role I actually wanted.
Birth is a singular intersection of remarkable and quotidian, of physical and emotional, of intuition and mystery, and it is a singular and special privilege to help support my clients (and their partners!) through the birth experience.
There are so many ways to give birth, and as a doula, I have no hidden agenda as far as what choices you should make. My priority is ensuring that you feel empowered, informed, and safe - prenatally, during labor, and postpartum - so that you can experience all the parts of pregnancy and birth that are important to you. I lead with warmth, compassion, evidence-based information, and humor (there's a lot of stuff to laugh at and marvel at in this wild process!), and I practice non-judgmentalness as a rule.
