About the Collective

Bringing a new life into the world is an incredible journey, unique to each family. East River Doula Collective is committed to providing nonjudgmental, trauma-informed, inclusive support and personalized service to make your birth and postpartum experience as positive, stress-free, and uplifting as possible.

The Collective was originally founded in 2018 by Astoria doula Leigh Cohen, who had a vision of a community of Queens-based doulas supporting Queens families, and is currently led by Lisa Greaves Taylor of Birth Matters NYC.

We support families throughout
NYC, western Long Island, and Westchester.

Please take a few minutes to watch the welcome video below to learn more about our collective as well as the role of a birth doula and postpartum doula. This will help you get a better sense of how you might best be optimally supported in your journey into parenthood. Also read our statement of values.

Or if you prefer to read an article, director Lisa is quoted throughout this Care.com article: What is a birth doula? How they can help during pregnancy, delivery and beyond

"If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it."

– Dr. John Kennell, pediatrician, researcher & a founder of Doulas of North America International
